Can you change the color of alloy wheels?

It is possible to change the color of alloy wheels. Common methods include painting, vinyl wrapping, baking paint, brushed finishes, and electroplating.

Painting/Vinyl Wrapping

This method is low-cost and simple to carry out, but the adhesion is relatively weak and the color may peel off easily. It is recommended to avoid painting the entire wheel black; keep some silver areas for a layered appearance, and finish with a clear coat for a better result.

Baking Paint

Using a “three-spray, three-bake” process improves adhesion, ensuring the color lasts longer and provides better corrosion resistance. The original paint surface must be sanded and any imperfections repaired. After high-temperature curing, the color remains stable.

Brushed Finish

There are two main techniques: dual-color brushed finish with baking paint and hand-brushed transparent finish. The former combines gloss and texture, while the latter retains the metallic look and feel.

Electroplating

This method uses vacuum eco-friendly electroplating technology, resulting in a long-lasting mirror finish that does not peel or fade, though the cost is relatively high.
