The first thing we need to know about wheel modifications is the size of the wheel and other aspects that should be taken into account when replacing it. In general, before we replace a wheel, we need to understand the ET value, J value, PCD hole distance and CB center hole.

The ET value, also known as the offset, is the distance between the wheel mounting surface and the wheel centerline, and is divided into positive offset, zero offset and negative offset. For example, ET35 means 35 mm offset. The smaller the value, the more the wheel will be offset to the outside of the car. The ET value can of course also be changed by installing a flange between the wheel and the brake bolts to make the wheel appear fuller and more prominent. Most of you may not be able to understand the value, so I will use a more graphic description to explain it to you. The ET value of a car with a wide body is basically a negative value.

The J value is a must for all those who want to modify their car wheels. It is what affects how wide and what type of tires you can fit on your wheels. I am going to prepare a chart for you, so if you are looking to modify your car, you can take a serious look at it.

 

The PCD is the diameter of the circle formed by the number of boltholes that hold the wheel in place, for example 4 x 100 is four boltholes and the diameter of the circle is 100 mm. The main purpose of this value is to determine whether the wheel is suitable for this car, as the hole spacing varies from car to car. Although it is possible to change the distance of the holes for mounting the wheel by transforming the flange, I do not recommend this method because it may cause a lack of strength.

CBD refers to the wheel center diameter of the connecting part of the vehicle. If the center circle of the modified wheel is too large, the method of changing it is also very simple, adding a reducer ring will do the job.

In fact, in addition to the above values, there are some details that need to be noted. The above four values are mainly for the purpose of allowing you not to be cheated when choosing wheels, as well as ensuring the safety of the car’s driving.
