Are forged rims are better than Casting rims? 90% person don’t know that.

I was asked usually ” Do I need to buy forged rims” by my friends.  Do forged rims are quite different with casting rims?  Yes, they are really quite different. In fact, weight reduction of truck is weight reduction of accessories. The weight can be largely deducted if choose the aluminium forged wheels.For example, one 40 tons truck & half shipping system, there are 22 wheels,  and also with spare wheels,the quantity will be 24 pcs.

The weight will be deducted about 600KG if we replace the steel wheels with aluminium one. Furthermore, because   the aluminium alloy material are good at heat dissipation and anti-ageing of tire,   the car with forged aluminium alloy wheels can save 20% consumption of tire. So you can see the effective of save energy & emission reduction is obviously well.

Then why the car for commercial use is not with casting wheels but forged wheels? Are forged rims better?

1. Much more safe

At some countries, forged wheels used for commercial are not casting one or forbidden to be used.

The forged 6061 aluminium wheel  are shock resisted  and  fatigue resisted. When it is  striked strongly, it will only be twisted but not broken. The air pressure will not be disappeared, then the safety can be ensured.

 

The casting wheels with A356 material are poor at shock resisted and it will be comminuted broken once it is striked strongly. And the air pressure will be disappeared suddenly , so it is very dangerous.

 

Impact test

Japan JWL standard test, it equal about one car with speed of 50 kilometres/hour strike on deep pit.

Only the aluminium forged wheels passed the test, but not the casting aluminium one!

 

2. much more lighter

Forged wheels.

Because the feature of forged wheels are highly strength, the weight of the can be much more lighter. For example of the 22.5*9.0 product, the forged wheels with 24KG can pass the standard test. If need to meet the requirement of TUV standard, the weight can be also smaller than 25KG, it is 25% lighter than casting wheels.

Casting wheels

For example of 22.5*9.0, the casting wheels can pass the test with 28.5KG, and the casting wheels are hardly to meet the TUV standard test.

 

3. Higher quality of surface

It is usually fresh & bright,  because of its highly oxidation resistance .

The brightness of Forged wheels is even after manufacturing, there is no defect of loosen, air hole like casting wheels. Also because the 6061 aluminium are with good oxidation resistance, the forged wheels look like new ones after some day’s use, the forged wheels don’t need coating technology.

because of its poor oxidation resistance, the color casting wheels easily changed to be yellow & black.
